progess graphMany potential clients call me and ask how will they know if what I’m doing is working for them. That’s a really great question which I’m always happy to answer.

What I do for my clients is this… On a monthly basis I send a report of my analysis of how your site is ranking for your target keywords.

Of course we always want our target keyword rankings to improve in a linear fashion. I wish it worked this way and I could therefore guarantee exactly when your site will hit #1 on the first page of Google for every one of your target keywords.

Unfortunately, this is not always possible. Typically, when SEO and link building are done properly there will be an upward trend of all target keywords. However, even with an upward trend there may be times when your site’s rankings for a given keyword moves downward a few notches. It’s sort of like – two steps forward and one step back, then two steps forward and one step back, and so on. As long as the general trend is moving in the right direction then we know we’re on the right track.

Tracking Your Traffic

The best indication of whether you are moving in the right direction is not necessarily where you are ranking for a particular keyword. Rather it is whether your site’s traffic numbers are increasing on a month to month basis.

(Read my post on traffic and conversion and you’ll understand why your traffic numbers are so important.)

After the first 2-3 months your traffic should increase monthly…especially if you are building links, consistently adding content to your site through blogging, and syndicating this content across you social media channels.

On a monthly basis I will send you a report showing your monthly traffic numbers. We can even get on the phone and discuss the particulars of where your traffic is coming from, what keywords are bringing you the most traffic, etc.

Show Me the Links!

Many business owners get caught up in feeling they need to have their SEO guy report the exact links they’ve created.

I don’t do this. Why? Because it is a very time consuming and costly thing to do and it is not any indication of whether you will be successful with you SEO campaign.

Instead, I ask all my clients to focus on the results of my SEO strategies rather than on the process.

You see, whether 1 link is created in a month or 1000, the proof of whether I am helping you and whether your money is being well spent is whether your traffic is increasing month in and month out…and of course, whether that traffic is converting into new clients, patients, or customers for your local business.

If this makes sense to you and you would like to discuss my SEO strategies, especially my tiered link building approach to SEO and how it can propel your website to the top of Google for your most important keywords…then give me a call today at (516) 448-9911.
