Do you want a simple formula that will help you use Youtube videos to get more legal clients for your Long Island or NYC area based law firm?

Go to Youtube and type in anything that has to do with personal injury lawyers, criminal defense attorneys, bankruptcy law, etc., and you’ll find hundreds if not thousands of “lawyer” videos.

Some of them are very professional and highly produced while others are fairly “low budget”.

Now, pay attention to the subject matter in the lawyer videos you find. What do you see? I generally see two types of videos:

  1. Promotional videos, and
  2. Informational videos

Promotional videos are pretty basic. You’ll have either a lawyer or a paid spokesperson talking about how many years the firm has been in business, the types of cases they handle, the awards they’ve won, how they will “protect your right!”, etc.

At Net Advantage Media we have produced, shot, edited, and uploaded dozens of videos for our law firm clients. And by far, the videos that get the most views, and more importantly, the most conversions (calls from potential clients), are the informational videos.

Why is this the case?

The reason is that the best marketing is that which focuses on the wants, needs, and desires of your target audience. And in your case your target audience is someone with some type of legal problem.

Now, you need to understand that someone with a legal problem has probably got some fears and concerns and most likely a whole bunch of questions that they want answered.

The best way to market to this person is to answer their questions. By doing this you will establish your expertise and credibility.  You’re not necessarily solving their problems…you are just laying the foundation in their mind that you are the person who CAN ultimately get them to where they want to go which could be a successful personal injury settlement, a resolution to their debt problem, a reinstatement of a suspended license, etc.

Here are two examples:

The first video is from Ira Weissman, a criminal defense attorney in Suffolk County Long Island.  In this video Mr. Weissman addresses the question:

“How to get a suspended license reinstated.”

The second video is from David Berkowitz, a personal injury lawyer located in Melville, Long Island. In this video Mr. Berkowitz addresses a question he gets asked quite frequently from prospective clients which is, “Do I have a good case?”

As you can see, these videos are simple and address questions and concerns that prospective clients have on their minds and most likely need answered before they make their “hiring” decision.

As a lawyer competing with other lawyer for the available clients in your market, you want to be the one who answers these questions. If you do it correctly you will get your fair share of new clients from the Internet.

Here’s what you should do right now to start making great videos to market your law practice

Take out a legal pad and write out 10 of the most frequently asked questions you get from clients and/or prospective clients.

Then, turn on a video camera and answer these questions one by one. As you look into the camera pretend you a speaking to a client who is sitting right across from you in your office.

Be as helpful as you can be and understand that your function is not to “sell” or “pitch” in these videos. Just understand that you are positioning yourself as a helpful advisor…without giving specific legal advice, of course.
